CastoChrome® Rockbox Liners Extend Feed Chute Service Life by Over 400%

Impact and abrasion resistant wear castings
The Challenge
The customer had been using 3-inch-thick liners welded onto AR plates to protect their transfer chute (fixed plant) from wear at the impact zone. However, repairs were expensive and frequent, and the part quickly became severely damaged.
The Solution
The Castolin Eutectic wear management team, working in close collaboration with the customer, analyzed the wear mechanisms involved and the trajectory of the material affecting the part. With this information, Eutectic Services and the Technical team designed a custom rock box chute liner to create a deadbed for ore-on-ore wear, using CastoChrome, a chrome white iron casting. The selected material, CastoChrome, will provide exceptionally impact and abrasion-resistant wear liners with a safe and quick installation procedure.
The Outcome
The CastoChrome Rockbox has proven to be a game-changer in wear part performance. While the initial solution lasted only 3 months, the CastoChrome upgrade extended the service life to an impressive 16 months — over a 400% increase. This dramatic improvement allowed the part to seamlessly align with the scheduled maintenance cycle, eliminating unplanned downtime and significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
